A charity drive is aiming to launch a traditional song from Palestine to the Christmas number one spot. The campaign seeks to provide aid to communities in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.

An Opportunity for Unity and an "Chart Upset"

Renowned figure Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a moment to stand with Palestinians this festive season. He remarked the potential for an unexpected chart success.

“That would be amazing if that happened, yes,” he stated. “I’m not gonna be completely let down if it fails to, festive releases are a unique phenomenon.”

Defiant Message of Freedom and Dignity

Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the version of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's resilient spirit.

“It has a profound significance for countless listeners,” Barghouti explained. “It’s basically saying that I would prefer a dignified death than spend my life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we want to live a life of dignity that we merit as a people.”

Production History and Featured Artists

The song was recorded in the wake of a major charity concert held in the autumn. Initially planned to be performed and recorded live, the performance was omitted from the lengthy event due to the event running long.

The impressive roster of musicians appearing on Lullaby encompasses a range of well-known figures from the music world. All participated in the September show, which managed to collect a considerable total for charitable causes.

Final Touches and Availability

Lullaby was brought to life by a group of talented individuals. The song blends a mix of the original Arabic with new English lyrics.

The team running the project have clarified that their goal is to raise as much as possible for a specific fund. These resources will be distributed to projects in Palestine through an partnering humanitarian organization.

“We don’t have a specific target,” a representative said. “We’ll go for whatever we can get. Of course, the greater the amount, the better. All proceeds are directed out to the people of Gaza.”

The reality in the territory was described as its widespread damage, with a huge proportion of buildings said to be in ruins or severely impacted.

“Against that backdrop, a handful of millions is unlikely to make that much difference. But I think the significant factor is first of all spreading knowledge of this plight and demonstrating there’s another side to the story.”

The track is set to be released this Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the solidarity show will be made ready to watch on a digital service from the 19th of December.
