Thrice-crowned Most Valuable Player Jokic sustains a 'heartbreaking' injury to his knee.

Jokic earned the league's MVP title in three of the past four years.

Three-time NBA MVP Jokic sustained a "devastating" knee injury when the Denver Nuggets lost 147-123 at the Miami Heat.

The Serbian center was hurt towards the end of the second quarter in an accidental coming together with fellow Nugget Jones.

Jones came down on the foot of the big man, and he promptly collapsed to the court grabbing his leg.

The 30-year-old, that is leading the league this season in boards and dimes, posted 21 points and eight dimes in the matchup before sustaining the injury.

The player will have an MRI on Tuesday to evaluate the extent of the issue.

"Instantly, Jokic understood he was hurt," stated Denver head coach David Adelman.

"This happens in professional sports. Anyone who suffers an injury, that's tough to see, particularly a player as talented as Jokic. We'll find out more tomorrow."

"We will continue together. Obviously, right now, I'm focused just about him as a person and the disappointment of facing a situation of that nature."
